CHARMING

The next year brought a new change in my life as my entire family moved to a new house. Farther away from Rachael and all those emotional ‘BS’. It was an avenue to start afresh; I wasn't even thinking about all those kinda things as I had school on my mind with how to survive from seniors and still graduate with a good enough result.

5 years went by so fast as I finished sec. school and I found myself in year 2 of University.. Still a golden duck that hadn't even had his first kiss. I never really bothered about it.. Even with friends around me that gave tales of their many escapades with girls. Yeah, I was up for trying again, but I wasn't going to go out of my comfort zone.

Upon getting home for the Christmas holiday, there was this girl in my new estate that took a liking to me. All I saw her as was a 'hello-how-are-you?' Kind of friend. But if you have a senior sister like mine, you'd understand that your love life wasn't your own.

She convinced me to talked to her more, exchange numbers, call her and just treat her right. The relationship was between my sister and charming!! I was just the third party!!!!!

It didn't take long before we started taking long walks round the estate, talking about things that didn't matter and sometimes just walking in total silence and enjoying every bit of it. I asked her to be my girlfriend and she said yes as quickly as one answers 2+2. I was happy to have someone to believe in.

Sadly, on New Year's Eve that same period, my aunt passed on, which kind of put the family in a dull mood. Family members came around to grieve with us as we entered into the new year. I buried my Aunt on the first of the new year and the whole house was so gloomy.

All I wanted to do was to see charming; tell her about it, then spend as much time as she had to spare in complete silence with her.

After our long walk, she had to go home; but walking away from her, I needed something more than just the long deep hug we shared. Sadly, I couldn't bring myself to ask for more. While walking into the gloomy house which was enhanced by the fact that there was no light, a call came in from charming... Happy to hear from her, I picked up the phone eagerly to hear what she had to say.

She told me during our kind walk, she seemed to have misplaced one of her earrings. It was a golden loop earring she loved so much and her mum was going to ask for soon. Without waiting for her to finish, I pledged my life into finding the earring and being her hero in shining armor.

I turned around, pulled out my shining torch light, and headed straight for the door. As I was leaving, Billy (a cousin of mine) stopped me and told me he wanted to follow me anywhere I was going at all cost!! (WHO THE H*LL IS THIS ONE NAA!!!) I couldn't shake him off and there was no time, so we headed out... Frodo and Billy; Lords of the earring.

We searched ceaselessly for the jewel, in every place I remember we passed, my siblings saw us on our quest, and even helped us search for it, till they gave up. Eventually as we were about to give up on our mission, a glitter caught my eye.. And alas!! It was the earring!!!.

Holding it up and beaming with smiles from all corners of my mouth, I called her that I had found it. I tried to drop Billy off on my way to completing my quest, but the stubborn twat wouldn't budge. We got to the front of her house where I handed the ring to Charming and introduced her to Billy, my side kick.

After thanks and gratitude had been given, I turned towards Billy and INSISTED he took a walk. With him gone, I looked to Charming who smiled and asked "so... What do you want in return?" With every single cell in my body vibrating like they were going to burst, my body became hot. My neck was on fire and I became light headed. Charming noticed, she just smiled like the goddess she was and said "go for it".

I leaned in, covering the rest of the space between us. All the 'gists' and tips  I had learnt over the years of being a golden duck flew out the window, I didn't know what I was doing. I was about to cower in fear and pull back till she leaned in and covered the last inch.. As I felt her soft lips touch mine, it felt like i hit a home run and i knew.... The era of beings golden duck was over for me.

I leaned in deeper to affirm my first kiss; to confirm that this was actually happening.. she didn't resist also as we remained lips-locked for like.. Forever. She heaved a sigh under her breath and we pulled apart, when I looked back at her, she had a marvelous grin on her face which made me smile in return.

We fell back into a warm embrace as I began to regain strength in my weak legs. We smiled at each other then we heard a thud coming from her house which brought us back to sanity. She looked at me once again and explains that she had to go..... I couldn't hear anything... She said she was going to call me later in the night.. I couldn't hear anything... She said goodbye... I COULD NOT HEAR ANYTHING!!!.

She closed her gate behind her and I began to walk away. I met billy playing prince of Persia on his phone. He said how far, I didn't hear... We walked to a kiosk nearby to get airtime, the woman told us to wait a bit... I sat on the pavement and kept on reliving the amazing moment I just felt. I couldn't get her off my mind.

Her lips were so soft, so warm... It tore down every paper wall I had built round my heart to protect it from any silly girl.. Charming revived me.

I didn't know when I got home, i can't recount what happened after that ... I just knew I felt so good.. And I didn't want to talk about it!! Lol, my elder brother told the rest of the house, "leave him, he's still grieving about auntie's passing".
